The Willy was born the 16th of February, 1978 in Lima, capital city of Peru. My father, Dr William Hinojosa Linares, and my mother: Mrs. Lucy Andia Angulo, 2 years after me, one of the women of my life arrived to the world, my little sister, Johanna. My grandparents: Mr. Manuel Hinojosa, Mrs. Esther de Hinojosa, Mr. Octavio Andia, and Mrs. Hermelinda Andia. You can download my CV here.
El Willy and the Martial Arts
When I was 4 years of age I had my first lessons of martial arts as a part of the physical education of the elementary school I was studying, when I become 6, I start training in a real school, Wayo Salas Dojo, where I trained for 4 years, just a short time later, when I become 12 I decided to change my style and thus I got admitted in the Soo Young Kim school of Tae Kwon Do where Sabonim Soo Young Kim 7th Dan International Master, was the leader, he initiated my training, and become more than a master for me, he instructed me not only in the correct martial arts path but also in the correct life arts path. I trained here for 5 years until receiving the rank of black belt, just before starting at university, where I knew through my father, one the best exponents of the martial arts in Peru, Max Aranda, by then a world-wide runner-up of Kung Fu, who took care of my training for 3 years in Kung Fu, Thai Box (Muay Thai), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wing Chun, later on, I move to train with his master, Master Max Flores Prado, Master 7th Tuan in Kung Fu Kuo Su style, who trained me for a couple of years, until obtaining the blue belt of 3rd degree. Nowadays I do Cali training, a Philippine battle style, in the University of Salford with the “Warriors Eskrima”. Additionally I have practiced also: Jiu Jitsu, “Vale Todo”, Kick Boxing and Full Contact. During my practice of Kung Fu I participated in several matches and I obtained many victories including weapons (short sword or Chi En)
El Willy and the Technology
Ever since I have memory, the robotics called the attention, my father says that he is something that was born in me at a very low age, and it pronounced itself by an excessive interest in toy robots, which made suspect him what was waiting for me. After finishing secondary school, one of the options that Peru offered in that time, was the electronic engineering career, from all the options I chose the best one and in February of 1995 I entered the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). In December of the 2002 I received the degree of Bachelor in Sciences and Engineering, with major in Electronic Engineering, September of the 2003 I received the degree of Electronic Engineer after defending my thesis whose approach was in Control Systems, which was supervised by one of the professors I admire the most in Peru, Dr. Javier Sotomayor, who patiently guided me through this wonderful career. In that same month I was accepted in the University of Salford, Manchester, United Kingdom, to follow studies of masters in Robotics and Automation from where I received the MSc. Degree on July 20th 2006. In January of the 2005 I started my PhD. Studies in Advanced Robotics, in which I am still working, my project: nothing else and nothing less than a baby humanoid with artificial intelligence, RobotCUB.
One of the best moments in my life that I cannot forget by all means, the semester of Electronic Project II. Dedicated to the members of the OVNI group, the best group of all the times, together there was nothing that we could not develop, each one of you are irreplaceable, we did made history in the PUCP…
